Re: Michael Jackson's death a Hoax.

Other than the guy who was engaged to Olivia Newton John I do not recall anyone doing so. Supposedly this guy has been hiding out in Mexico...but again, that could be a hoax. :)

Disgusted by what children read today..thanks Walt Disney

I am with you on this one. I HATE when my students ask if I have Pokemon books in the library. I try really hard to guide them to reading classics on their levels. I have been able to get them to read new classics (which is where I would put Harry Potter, Inkheart, or Kate DiCamillo books). I have a...

Book Movies

I am gearing up, once again, to see a movie based upon a children's book. I have been very disappointed as of late because I always believe the book to be better. The one thing I have noticed is that when a movie is made, my students all want to read the book. The new Inkheart movie has gotten my ki...

As a children's librarian, I have discovered how much the cover draws a reader. That said, I put off reading a series I have now come to enjoy because of the cover art. It is a fickle thing - people are different and we choose to pick up a book based upon the title, the art, and the author. We choos...

Nightstand reading

Well, I told my kids I would read Inkheart this weekend since a movie is coming out next week. BUT, I forgot it at work. I might just read it to them this six weeks. I am reading a couple of mysteries (Sherlock Holmes vs Dracula & Back to School Murder) and a Ben Franklin biography. It all depen...

McCain's age as an issue

McCain is 70? Ronald Reagan was lest than a month from his 70th birthday when he was inaugurated. Age itself should not be a factor, isn't that agism?? ;-) Anyway, experience is much more important.

Out of the mouths of babes...

A fifth grader told me that her mother was very concerned about the results of the election as she feared for the president-elect's life. I think many of us, whether we voted for him or not, have that concern at the back of our minds. How long will he be president? Will Biden actually become our nat...

I meant that the general tenor of the race has been impacted by speculations in the media along the lines of "Is America ready for it's First Black President?" or pitting the supposed appeal/drawback of supporting women in the person of Hillary Clinton against the supposed appeal/drawback...
