I will not be participating. I don't see the point of reading an early draft of a novel which, as has been well documented, the author never wanted published in the first place, not at least until Harper Lee herself is verified as speaking out in favor of the work being published -- and not through her publicist, either, who by definition is a professional liar.
A likely story.

TomWhite: I don't like the thought of the old lady being bullied into publishing either. But at least if we read and discuss it, we will have the background information to reach an honest decision rather than take on board what the pundits say.

I like Harper Lee a lot. I think that her life home and in NYC is fascinating. I hate to say this I would read her grocery list if she wrote it. If you admire her as a person you will want to read what she wrote. There is so much more to her than this one book. She never put down her pencil. I do believe this book is a window into her life, and her soul.Penelope wrote:TomWhite: I don't like the thought of the old lady being bullied into publishing either. Re: Please "check in" here!
I'd like to join in the discussion, but I haven't picked up a copy yet. I have a full shelf of books I've bought, been lent or gifted, or got from the library. I'm trying to finish all of them by the end of the year, but I might pick up a copy soon so I can catch up with you guys. The other books can always wait. I'd really like to check this one out and also see if it's as controversial as so many people made it out to be.

I am the same as you. I have shelves ready for the winter here in Maine. ugh. What was I thinking, but anyway, I stop the others to read this. So much ta-do over it and I love her. Truth. I was waiting for the day it come out. I am very happy I read it. A quick read. You'll be glad you did. And we will all get to know each other more and have some fun.RB816 wrote:I'd like to join in the discussion, but I haven't picked up a copy yet.
