Nikolai Gogol

I just saw the movie The Namsake. One of the characters favorite writer was Nikolai Gogol. The movie reminded me of how much I liked Gogol and how his stories influenced me, and helped me see that fiction could have a good story as well as something to say; and yet over the years I have forgotten about Gogol, I guess because no one seems to mention him. (Maybe he's just overshadowed by the other great Russian writers.)

Has anyone read Gogol recently? What did you think?

But you make it sound so good, Randy . . . I just might look it up.

I would certainly recommend his stories, "The Nose" and "The Overcoat"
