I am reading Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea by Jules Verne and would welcome discussion of it.

Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea (French: Vingt mille lieues sous les mers: Tour du monde sous-marin, Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Seas: An Underwater Tour of the World) is a classic science fiction novel by French writer Jules Verne published in 1870.
The book was highly acclaimed when released and still is now; it is regarded as one of the premiere adventure novels and one of Verne's greatest works, along with Around the World in Eighty Days and Journey to the Center of the Earth. The description of Nemo's ship, called the Nautilus, was considered ahead of its time, as it accurately describes features on submarines, which at the time were very primitive vessels. Thus, the book has been able to age well because of its scientific theories,

So far 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea has the most interest. Any more comments?

I am writing a novel partly based on 20,000 Leagues, so would be very pleased to discuss it, and to look at Jules Verne more broadly, as he was an extremely interesting thinker and visionary. In the annotated edition I have, the translator notes in his introduction that Verne's reputation suffered in the anglosphere from some weak early translations which omitted some of his philosophical commentary and gave the impression that he was a children's author, whereas in France he is seen as a prophet of modern technology.

Interesting Robert. Yes, he is portrayed as a children's author here in the US for sure.

Looking at Amazon, several of the (many) editions of annotated Leagues are classified as kids' books -- Library Journal recommending it for Grades 3-7, etc. Fascinating about the history.

Of all those editions, can you make a recommendation?

If we go with 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea I'd like to read one of the copies I already own. Or at least find it free online. Project Gutenberg probably has an acceptable version right Robert?
