I’m going with this chapter because of its title.
America needs a good dose of LSD, also known as “acid”. I realize the chapter title is in reference to acid rains and the acidification of the oceans none the less…the title
https://open.substack.com/pub/robertrei ... medium=web is Robert Reich’ interpretation of the new American Gilded Age. Although he’s informative I think that it is too late now to change the ways of the new generation of Robber Barons.
In a way the linked article is appropriate as it is in the hands of the new generations of Barons to finance the mitigation of the industrialization of pollution. Everything tells me that mitigation by industrialists won’t happen. Only time will prove me wrong.
We as Americans should remove fluoride from the water and replace it with
lyseric acid diethylamide, micro dosing may help reduce the putrefaction of the planet.
By mellowing out the recalcitrant masses Reich’ plane of reform just may be attainable.
Of course there would be a rise in tooth decay but! Some of us floss and brush our teeth regularly and would rather have that daily dose of “acid”. If people are content with mental pablum then actual pablum would be easier to nosh as most would go from some teeth to none and since we’d all be tripping who’s going to care?.
The robber baron conglomerates have won, PESfB is their biggest asset. The new barons with the aid of the 119th congress is going down deep into the pockets of the middle class, together they are going to eliminate every law, rule and regulation that was implemented by the people as a check against the power of wealth.
The barons are the globalist elite and PESfB is one of them, his minions are enablers.
Homo Sapien Sapiens will be the shortest lived species to have inhabited the planet earth. It is unlikely that a species as intelligent as we will ever survive our own hubris. It is unlikely that one species as intelligent as we will ever re-emerge. It will likely be millions of years from now that some extraterrestrial species with human like qualities
stumbles upon our planet and possibly discovers that they were not alone.
Will they marvel at our existence and stupidity…yes they will.
They may discover remnants of us on the moon and Mars, they will marvel at our primitive success and scratch their heads at the equal aplomb of our stupidity.
Will they discover that we were close to an enduring survival?. That would be the joke on us, if they found that we were so close.
It starts with acid rain and travels through time and space only to one day be a part of the fossil record, just another example of a very long history of extinction events.

Moved my post to a new thread as it was an off topic stream of consciousness rant from the non fiction discussion of the “Sixth Extinction” by Elizabeth Kolbert.

I think it stands on its own merits and does well to link today’s economic and political realities to the coming generations. The article I linked is a story about greed as is Kolbert’s book however dated is a story of greed.

Question: Is the human race too distracted to consider the possibility of a forlorn future? A future where species die off with a boring regularity. A future where most humans struggle while a very few live like aristocracy.
Drugging the water is a very real possibility. When the envy’s built up and the people are are stuck eating Soylent Green, when nature is a thing of the past, then the peasants will be drugged. The masses will be fed seaweed and be happy for it, they will gladly wash it down with mind altering, drug laced water.
