Here's a list of takeaways from yesterday's hearing. Most surprising to me was the metal detector search required to enter the "ellipse" speech. Many weapons including pistols confiscated. Most spectators refused to enter the immediate area, not wanting contraband to be confiscated. Trump demanded metal detectors be removed and let everyone through because "They aren't here to hurt me."

Re: House January 6 Committee hearings
Though Hutchison seems a credible witness, most if not all of her entire testimony is hearsay. Not that I doubt that the events she describes are true and entirely consistent with what we know about Trump. But we need incontrovertible evidence and this just isn't it. I'm surprised to see most media outlets discuss Hutchinson's testimony as if it were a smoking gun. Trump and his cronies have already disputed Hutchison's claims. File this under: Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.Cassidy Hutchinson, an aide to former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows and a witness to many critical events and conversations, is expected to testify publicly on Tuesday before the select committee investigating the January 6 . . .

Re: House January 6 Committee hearings
Yes, some of her testimony was hearsay. Part of the problem is Mark Meadows and Dan Scavino have refused to testify before the committee, were found in contempt of congress, referred to DOJ for prosecution, but the DOJ declined to indict. If any part of Hutchinson's testimony is not accurate, Meadows could refute it by testifying under oath. I expect the committee has corroborating testimony from other witnesses including upcoming information and video from filmmaker Alex Holder.

Trump is heading to prison for the balance of his life. There is no way the DOJ isn't going to successfully bring him down after this much evidence has been provided. I've now watched all of the sessions and if Trump doesn't go to prison this country is messed up.

Re: House January 6 Committee hearings
Another revealing hearing. Although it sometimes felt repetitive (some information was repeated from previous hearings to provide perspective for new viewers) there was a lot of new information. Testimony from Pat Cipollone, WH Counsel to President Trump, indicated his top advisors all told Trump that Biden won, there was no evidence of fraud sufficient to overturn the election, etc. Rudy Giuliani's lead counsel stated under oath his team KNEW they did not have sufficient evidence, but made unsupported assertions anyway. In her opening statement Liz Cheney said with the information Trump had, "no rational or sane man" would conclude otherwise.
A manufacturing supervisor from Ohio stated he attended the rally at Trump's instruction, went to the Capitol at Trump's instruction, and left the capital when Trump finally tweeted to leave at 4:17 pm 1/6/21. He did what Trump told ya now you're under control!
A former high level Oath Keeper stated something like "Let's call it what it is and state the truth, the Oath Keepers are a heavily armed militia with ambitions to become a paramilitary force."
The closing statements by Raskin, Murphy, and Cheney are very powerful - hope clips are available...

Here's Liz Cheney's closing argument on 7/12 summarizing high level findings of the committee, the next hearing, and breaking news about a potential / foiled witness tampering event. Video = 4:30

Re: House January 6 Committee hearings
I have started subscribing to the New Yorker, and just read an article on Jan 6 that reported a survey showing most Republican voters still support Trump. It is difficult to imprison some one who retains such strong political influence. The situation is that Trump is America's Hitler, and Jan 6 is his Munich Beer Hall Putsch of 1923, which sent Hitler to jail to write Mein Kampf. Jan 6 was intended as a deliberate outrage, a 'softening up' exercise designed to shift the boundaries of legitimate debate in order to make military dictatorship seem a reasonable option. The likely result of failure to work through these issues will be the political disintegration of the USA.Chris OConnor wrote: ↑Mon Jul 11, 2022 5:52 pm Trump is heading to prison for the balance of his life. Re: House January 6 Committee hearings
An important piece, in terms of whether Trump himself can be charged with a crime, was establishing that the the Jan. 6 "will be wild" invite was his idea alone.
Don't you wonder about Trump-Bannon conversation that must have taken place in order for Trump to say he's dropping his claim of exec privilege, allowing Bannon to testify?

Re: House January 6 Committee hearings
I don't think Bannon had a valid claim of executive privilege, so Trump dropping that is a distraction. However to your point, that's not to say that Bannon, being smarter than Trump, didn't extract something from Trump in exchange for testifying. (Hell, he already got a pardon for ripping off Trump supporters.)
Bannon is going to trial Monday 7/18 for refusing subpoenas from the Jan 6 committee. He tried to delay that trial because he now has to testify before the committee, a rare double burn: testifying under oath and being tried for refusing to testify. That delay was just shut down and it looks very bad for Steve.
=> The 8th hearing of the Jan 6 committee is scheduled for next Thursday 7/21 at 8 - 10 pm ET. That might be the last one.

I used to think Bannon was very smart, but corrupt and erratic. Now it seems he has given up chess strategy entirely and is just throwing his prodigious dual-shirted weight around...U.S. District Judge Carl Nichols issued a series of rulings on motions preparing for the trial that largely did not go Bannon’s way, one of them knocking out several potential defenses he had raised. After Nichols concluded, Bannon lawyer David Schoen said in the courtroom, “What is the point of going to trial here if there are no defenses?”
Nichols agreed, suggesting Bannon’s team consider that.
