Trump Watch

This is for posting information, and opinions, etc about our Fearless Leader and all the things he represents. Feel free to wax literary, and I know KindaSkolarly has started a bunch already, but I started this to put up a link to the latest Edsall column in the New York Times. It tells about the Wonderland being prepared for true believers who want to increase their status as MAGA-makers. The whole point being that very few people posting here would have ever even heard of this key strategem.

The internet is a dark place. If we want to know what is happening there, things that may deeply affect our lives, then we should tell about what we learn.

"Trump is Staking out his Own Universe of 'Alternative Facts' "

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/05/13/opin ... paign.html

If you help out, you can get points! Edsall cites some research about the role played by anger in motivating people to want this sort of thing. But the campaign knows enough to keep this hush-hush, to avoid creating anger on the other side.

It capitalizes on quasi-religious devotion.
In less than a year, from May 2019 to March 2020, the share of weekly church-attending white Protestants convinced that Donald Trump was anointed by God to be president grew from 29.6 percent to 49.5 percent.
Echo chambers no longer just happen. The campaign is now creating the best echo chamber money can buy, complete with gamification so owning the Libs can be fun.

In case you have not heard, "Messiah" means "Anointed one". So Trump is the new Messiah. How about that? Any question why Red State senators were reluctant to vote for evidence, let alone conviction?

NYT is also biased.. sometimes to a vulgar degree.

I wish you'd find a more neutral OPED source

I defy you to find a source that cannot be accused of bias. The New York Times has the distinction, getting rarer every day, that they check their facts. They don't always check factual claims in Op/Ed pieces, but they do provide some responsibility such as not printing it if they know it to be false or indefensible. Would that the same could be said for the television media.

Bright's testimony shows the same things about the Covid response that we have known all along about this administration. It only cares about political posturing, it prefers unlikely supposition to unpleasant facts, and it does not hesitate to screw up anything important for the sake of these bizarre priorities.

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/05/15/opin ... agate.html

While Dear Leader Twitters on his fiddle, playing the anxious Right like one, health care workers have to go without proper supplies, conspiracy theories are promoted, and -- I had trouble believing even this administration would be so stupid -- "dozens of federal scientists working on the coronavirus were distracted by an order to put all other work aside to focus on chloroquine" during the obsession by Trump and Fox News with this supposed source of deliverance. Look into it, sure. Examine the evidence we had and round up some academics to do tests. But "put all other work aside"? O. M. G.

The coordinating body meant to prepare for epidemics (we have had two to four significant ones just in the last 20 years, depending on who is counting) was dismantled in 2017, because, you know, "I'm from the government and I'm here to help" is the scariest thing anybody can say. Just ask the patients in New York City.

The death count projection is back way above 100,000, but never fear, this administration will uncover the nefarious Obamagate plot, by which the government somehow sought to overturn the election without telling people before the vote that Trump was up to his neck in liars, Russian poodles and dirty money. Go to work on that and do some creative writing, and you can soon conclude that, yes, the Deep State was trying to undermine the popular will because, you know, bureaucrats spend all their time cooking up ways to make Communist China look good. Virus? What virus?

Well, Trump has fired another Inspector General. Steve Linick at the State Department has been slated to be replaced in a month by a loyalist, because anyone independent is part of the Deep State of resistance to, well, coverups.

It seems Linick turned over information about contacts between Giuliani and Ukrainian prosecutors to congressional investigators, which is obviously an interference with a coverup (even though the New York Times refers to the material as "largely inconsequential.") Furthermore, Linick has twice questioned the decisions of political appointees at State, for retaliating against or harassing career civil servants. In other words, he was replaced for doing his job.

We can't have that.

And in related comedy, err, um, political strategizing, Trump has repeatedly falsely accused a prominent television host of murder on Twitter, reminded us that wind power "kills all the birds" and, inexplicably, seems to be getting a reputation with voters for not providing steady leadership during the covid crisis.

His political machine tried 20 lines of attack against Biden and found none of them gaining traction.

Obviously the Deep State and their cronies in the MSM have been sabotaging his efforts to get the truth out. It must be them, because Trump is God's Anointed. Drink bleach, you godless commies.

This is a needed thread, as the Trump reelection machine goes into high gear. Watch for claims of covid19 over counts as the death toll reaches the level Trump said would be its limit. What amazes me perhaps the most is that Trump's supporters, who would have nothing good to say about claims of victim hood based on skin color or ethnicity, are all in when Trump bellows about his victimization by the press, Democrats, Never Trumpers, and anyone who might think the co-equal branch of government should watch over the Executive. But desperation such as Trump is displaying with the laughable Obamagate conspiracy charge, rarely helps anyone's cause, and that gives me hope.

Did you know that Trump has been treated much worse than Lincoln was? It's true. Check out this Dana Milbank column for the proof.

Let's support one liar over the other because our liar is less likely to tell lies even though he has lied before.

How can we stand by and watch this happen? It's frankly unbelievable. And still the narrative on the right is that we are losing freedoms because we have to wear a mask as protection against a novel coronavirus.
