The Eulogist by G.M. Kidder

Myra is somewhere between Mary Barton and Margaret Simon, Judy Blume's most recognizable protagonist and Carlos would find himself comfortable within the pages of An Ideal Husband and The Hotel New Hampshire. Their usual antics are interrupted with the return of a jilted (Myra would disagree) lover. Myra fights her desire while Carlos feeds his, never letting his vow of chastity interfere. Father Benedict is a title that doesn't confine Carlos to the hallowed halls of St. Augustine's Church around the corner from Myra's apartment, shared by her 15 year old son, Oliver. Like in life, my book is comic relief with a little heart break and a cast of characters to distract the protagonist from her redemption, wondering if she really needs it.
