Post subject:  NOTE: SMALL CHANGE IN BOOK SELECTION PROCESS

As you all know we have long required members to have 10 or more posts on our forums before earning the privilege of voting in our book selection polls. And you also know that we select our books for group discussion in these two forums:

What non-fiction book should we read and discuss next?

What fiction book should we read and discuss next?

I've now reduced the post count requirement to enter both of those forums from 10 to 5 total forum posts. The reason we have a minimum post count to enter those forums and potentially impact our book selection process is because BookTalk.org has a continuous flow of authors joining exclusively to promote their books. They are not here to actually interact on our forums or participate in our book discussions. While we welcome these authors to BookTalk.org, and we provide forums in which they are encouraged to promote their books, we certainly do NOT want them influencing what books we read and discuss as a community.

You will now see: YOU MUST HAVE 5+ POSTS TO CONTRIBUTE IN THIS FORUM! on both of the book selection forums.

Hopefully this change will get some of our newer members to join our book discussions. Anyone who finds posting 5 times to be intimidating is not likely going to contribute much in a book discussion. Let's see if this new change helps our book discussion activity. I'm about to create polls to select new books.
