This song still moves me. The first times I heard it made me cry. It reminded me of my mother who died some years ago https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zXyW2GabOjQ

Cattleman wrote:One song that always moves me to tears is "Turn Around" (aka "Where Are You Going, Little One"). Why does it move me to tears? It remidns me of my daughter, and now my granddaughters. I wanted to sing it at my daughter's wedding, but lost my nerve.
I'm with you on that. I sing it to my wife when we need a good cry. (We are empty-nesters now.)
Cattleman wrote:I first heard in in the 1960s as a Kodak commercial. It has since been recorded by the Kingston Trio, the Brothers Four and others.
The commercial is crazy bizarre. Malvina Reynolds, who wrote the song, was as Red as they come. Made Phil Ochs and Pete Seeger look like Republicans. Maybe she figured she could support good causes with the money. She also allowed (or maybe her estate did, since she died in 78) "Little Boxes" to be the theme song on "Weeds".

To get the flavor of her politics, listen to "The Little Red Hen" or to "Isn't it Nice?" The satire can cut deep. But my favorite (after "Turn Around") is "We Hate to See Them Go".
Malvina Reynolds wrote: Last night I had a lovely dream.
I saw a big parade with ticker tape galore,
And men were marching there
The like I'd never seen before.

Oh the bankers and the diplomats are going in the army.
Oh happy day! I'd give my pay to see them on parade,
Their paunches at attention and their striped pants at ease.
They've gotten patriotic and they're going overseas.
We'll have to do the best we can and bravely carry on,
So we'll just keep the laddies here to manage while they're gone.

Chorus:
Oh, oh, we hate to see them go,
The gentlemen of distinction in the army.

The bankers and the diplomats are going in the army,
It seemed too bad to keep them from the wars they love to plan.
We're all of us contented that they'll fight a dandy war,
They don't need propaganda, they know what they're fighting for.
They'll march away with dignity and in the best of form,
And we'll just keep the laddies here to keep the lassies warm.

(Chorus)

The bankers and the diplomats are going in the army,
We're going to make things easy cause it's all so new and strange;
We'll give them silver shovels when they have to dig a hole,
And they can sing in harmony when answering the roll,
They'll eat their old K-rations from a hand-embroidered box,
And when they die, we'll bring them home, and bury them in Fort Knox.
My favorite sad song may be "Mr. Tanner" by Harry Chapin.

It's not as good as some of his other songs, but it speaks to me.

Robert, in case you weren't aware, I just got a message from PureVolume saying they were sunsetting and people with music stored on it have until June 30 to download it.

I like music like this. A bit of neoclassical and instrumental songs.

RickVannier, I'm loving the guitar playing! Acoustic guitar is so soothing and emotional when done right. Thanks so much for sharing it. I just subscribed to that YouTube channel.

This song by Black City Lights is exquisite and it hits me right in the feels. I like the video a lot too.
