Read or Color?
Read or Color: out of this week's list of ten best-selling trade paperbacks, 5 are adult coloring books. Is coloring easier and/or more creative than reading? Is it because at the end a person has something to show for the time spent? Do people secretly want to be artists? Is this just a fad and a result of creative marketing? All of the above? As an artist and an author, I find this interesting

My wife does a lot of these coloring books. She recently went to a coloring party with about 10 women. All brought 3+ coloring books plus pencils or crayons. Unfortunately the conversation devolved into religion and one left crying because her "brand" didn't get enough respect. LOL
So I tried it last weekend. Just the two of us coloring and playing records - yes vinyl on the turntable. Not much conversation, focusing on the technique. Very relaxing and more creative than reading.
This is kinda similar to the new painting classes where everything is provided, a specific painting is selected to copy, a teacher instructs in exactly which brush and colors to use plus technique and a glass of wine to relax. If you've never painted, give it a shot - you'll do better than you expect...
