Diamond's progress

After finishing the chapters on Norse Greenland, I must say that I feel Diamond is working through his thesis in a strong and concise manner. Someone mentioned in the 'lost threads' that his examples could not apply to large scale societies. I see small and large as very relative terms.At the very end of the last Norse chapter (I forget now), he ties small societal collapse to global societal collapse nicely. It is by no means an exhaustive dissertation, but it opened a door for me to realize how it could be so. I am looking forward to reading the coming chapters.Mr. P. After reading the chapter on China...I can see Diamond starting to really weave his thesis into the big picture of our civilization (all civilization). Looking back, starting small and ancient and then working to large and current civilization was a good choice.I must say again that his writing style is excellent and easy to read and makes this long book not too daunting.Mr. P.
