Hello everyone!

I have been passively searching this for years but need your help. When I was in High School in the early 2000s I recall reading a young adult novel which had a plot that stuck with me, though Ive forgotten the title.
This story was told from the perspective of a teen male raised in a small town where they mandated everyone to take a un-named shot regularly. On this occasion he chose to skip a dose for whatever reason I cantered recall, which soon caused him to begin growing blue hair patches across his body.
Ultimately, it was revealed that the town inhabitants were aliens from the darkside of the moon, and the shots necessary to suppress their inhuman features allowing them to blend in on earth.
I’ve forgotten the finer details like names, and even the conclusion. I’ve been searching for it so that I may reread it and relieve my mind’s obsessive recall, but I haven’t been able to find any success. Please tell me where to look. :thanks2:

I don't know where to find that book, but it really does sound like an interesting story. I am going to suggest that you try using Chat GPT or some other AI program to get more info. In fact, I'm gonna try it right now using the AI app called Pi. And lo and behold Pi found it! Here is your answer...

The book you're describing sounds like "The Dark Side of Nowhere" by Neal Shusterman. It's a science fiction novel published in 1997.

The story follows a 14-year-old boy named Jason, who lives in a small town called Billington. The residents are required to take regular injections called "B12 shots." Jason decides to skip his shot and soon discovers that he starts growing blue patches of hair on his body. It's later revealed that the town's inhabitants are indeed aliens from the dark side of the moon, and the shots are necessary to suppress their extraterrestrial features.

I hope this is the book you've been searching for!

You may be a wizard! Thanks so much for the help! That sounds exactly like it and I’m going to look it up. I tried Copilot and Gemini but neither could find the book. So I assumed Chatgpt wouldnt be any wiser all this time. Maybe I wasn't asking the question the right way lol. Thank you again for showing me the way.
