Iris: A Hurricane in Paradise, is a true story as told by Robert E Gammons. Robert always had a dream of retiring in the Caribbean’s, he is an avid lover of the beach which is why his favorite pastime activity is swimming. In 1987 Robert accepted a job as a pastry chef teacher, but this job would require him to travel all the way to the Central American country Costa Rica. While astonished by the weather and beauty of Costa Rica, Robert researcher retirement opportunities available in the country. Through research Robert felt Costa Rica wasn’t the best fit for him, but he had several other locations which he considered, mostly consisting of Caribbean islands and other Central American countries. Friends of Robert, knowing his plans for retirement, asked if he had considered Belize, a small Country in Central America sitting on the Caribbean Sea with the climate Robert was looking for, as well as several surrounding islands. He chose to visit Belize , upon arriving he spoke with locals, describing a location that would be ideal for him in search for his Retirement. A local Bar maid told him about a small town Placencia and it’s beautiful sandy beaches, intrigued Robert planned to visit this small town.

This book is eventful and full of excitement. During his retirement in Belize, through reading the book, you will discover that Robert not only chose to retire in Belize but he also built a resort there. As can be inferred by the title, during his time in Belize he was caught in the 2001 hurricane Hurricane Iris which has directly hit his resort.
