There are very few moral principles on the Old Testament - very little guidance toward leading mature ethical lives. The Lord Jealous is more concerned with micromanaging the daily lives of the early Israelites to the tiniest details than he is with teaching his children how t think for themselves.

...What kind of practical advice do we find in the Old Testament? The God of the universe, the cosmic source of wisdom, spends six entire chapters in Exodus, the second book of the bible, on minutely detailed instructions on how to build a tent for his glory.
p. 53
Those six chapters sound excruciatingly tedious, one reason why I've never been able to get very far with reading that book...

When you spread out your hands in prayer, I will hide My eyes from you; even though you multiply your prayers, I will not listen. Your hands are covered with blood.
Isaiah 1:15

But if there is serious injury, you are to take life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, burn for burn, wound for wound, bruise for bruise.
Exodus 21: 23 - 25
