These two chapters give some family history describing some shenanigans over bribery to move borders and a description of how the Finches fit and achieved their status.
Only those become weary of angling who bring nothing to it but the idea of catching fish.

This was a picture of the petty maneuverings in small-town places by the big fishes in the little pools. It is the same in rural districts in UK.

We had a beautiful stately home here on the outskirts of our village, named Hefferston Grange, it was falling to bits when I first saw it close to, and I would have liked to have won the lottery then to restore it because it was just lovely. It has now been demolished and new housing estate built there, but the money which enabled it to be constructed was made from the slave trade I found out later - so of course, it lost a lot of its glamour and I'm glad it was so summarily disposed of now.
