Giselle has volunteered to lead this discussion!

Thanks for taking the reins with this one, Giselle! I know you'll do a great job. :-)

Let me know how you think this discussion forum should be organized. As you know we usually create a separate thread for each chapter but there are 35 chapters in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Having 35 threads is probably excessive and we will end up with most threads with zero posts. We've often created threads for groups of chapters so perhaps 7 threads that relate to 5 chapters each. This is one idea. I'm open to your thoughts. If we go with chapter threads I'd like to personally create those threads so just let me know what to do and I'll do it. Thanks.

I'm looking forward to Hitchhikers Guide as well and I hope we have a lively discussion, I will do my best to encourage that. I read the first couple chapters last night and Adams really hits my funny bone, I hope others find it funny as well. As to number of threads, I think 5 chapters per thread is good, maybe plus one opening thread for general discussion? Not sure about timing? When do we start? And just a note about buying the book on Kindle, I purchased the entire 5 book series for less than $17. I thought that was a pretty good deal because his later books are good reading as well, IMO.

Unfortunately I'm away from my computer for a week so I plan to start this discussion Oct 1. If others want to proceed, please do and I will catch up. I'm sure we'll enjoy discussing the adventures of Arthur Dent and Ford Prefect and all of Adams' weird and amazing characters.

Question: What is the most important advice that the Hitchhikers Guide has to offer?

Answer: "Don't Panic" ...

Ok, well, I didn't say it was particularly useful advice ... but given the circumstances that Arthur faces quite early in the book, this may in fact be the best possible advice ... :P

If your sense of humour is anything like mine, I think you will find Hitchhikers "lol" funny ... I have not read that many books which I can honestly put in that category but Hitchhikers is one of them. I hope you find it funny too. 8)
