An interesting biography was written about Rand by Barbara Branden. It is called The Passion of Ayn Rand. Barbara was the wife of Nathaniel Brandon and a member of Rand's elite inner circle along with her husband and Alan Greenspan.

Thanks, lindad_amato. :-)

I've read much of her non-fiction but never any of her fiction. I just downloaded Atlas Shrugged and am excited to finally tackle this classic.

Not sure what to do. Amazon UK are offering something called a 'quicklet' bundle. Atlas Shrugged,The Fountainhead, The Virtue of Selfishness and more. Probably abridged versions? Not a bad price, though

The Virtue of Selfishness is a concise summary of her philosophy (about 150 pages?).

The Passion of Ayn Rand is a good movie if you want to learn more about her weird private life. Helen Mirren plays Ayn, Eric Stoltz is Nathaniel Brandon, her one time heir apparent and lover who fell from grace, and Peter Fonda is Ayn's hapless husband.

It's a collection of her writings, biography and writings by others about her and her work. The biography, The Passion of Ayn Rand by Barbara Branden is a great companion pice to reading Rand's fiction.

heledd,

"Atlas Shrugged" is definitely fiction but it has serious philosophical undertones. Ayn Rand, the author, was a philosopher and the originator of a philosophy called "Objectivism." I've read almost all of her non-fiction but none of her fiction as of yet.

Look forward to joining this discussion once I get the book downloaded on my Kindle. I read Atlas Shrugged some years ago so interested in a refresher and discussion but also in learning more about Ayn Rand and her philosophy.

Post Re: "Atlas Shrugged" resources and helpful websites
I just finished reading Rand's We the Living and I must say that I found it to be her best fiction. She wrote it after escaping Russia to the US and her youthful experience shows in the passion that she brought to her characters. I found it much more enjoyable that either The Fountainhead or Atlas Shrugged. She presents an excellent impression of what it was like to live in Russia during and after the Revolution and her characters are very human instead of the robots in her other books. Her prose is beautiful and flows nicely. I recommend it highly as an enjoyable read.

Advance Review Copy Giveaway - Final Days

Book One of the Nine Inch Bride series is subtitled Conundrum and a Complimentary Reviewer Copy will be available through October 15. On sale thereafter at all popular eBook outlets.

Book Two, A Stone of Conscience is expected to be out early in the New Year.

NINE INCH BRIDE

The wry, symbolic tale of a consummate revolutionary who co-opts Wall Street to fuel a bonfire of America's corporate political culture.

Book One: Conundrum
In this symbolic political fiction set in the near future we meet a young Wall Street analyst facing financial ruin in a major market crash. He is rescued in his descent by a uniquely talented young woman with a dedicated revolutionary agenda. Together they form a most extraordinary partnership in a mission to change the world.

What readers are saying...

"The Anti-Rand. This is a serious, literate book which repays close attention. The anonymous author cleverly satirizes contemporary political and economic doctrine, its dogma and its madness. The tale told is not so whimsical as the existence of a nine inch tall title character may suggest, but a rather grim polemic on the evils of modern corporate capitalism."

and...

"Nine Inch Bride is not so distant a scenario . . . its predictive details are logical developments; a believable extension of our own times. Its observations draw a short straight line of direct relevance back to the world as it stands today, and in doing so offer a sharp and intelligent indictment of the evils of our time and their possible effect on the shape of our future."

and again...

"There's depth in this near future, in the emotional development of the characters as well as in the understated sci-fi and unfolding espionage, which buffs of those genres will appreciate. Emotions ring true and the relevance to contemporary America is unmistakeable. For me NINE INCH BRIDE fills a void as the literary answer to Atlas Shrugged."
