An interesting biography was written about Rand by Barbara Branden. It is called The Passion of Ayn Rand. Barbara was the wife of Nathaniel Brandon and a member of Rand's elite inner circle along with her husband and Alan Greenspan.

Thanks, lindad_amato. :-)

I've read much of her non-fiction but never any of her fiction. I just downloaded Atlas Shrugged and am excited to finally tackle this classic.

Not sure what to do. Amazon UK are offering something called a 'quicklet' bundle. Atlas Shrugged,The Fountainhead, The Virtue of Selfishness and more. Probably abridged versions? Not a bad price, though

The Virtue of Selfishness is a concise summary of her philosophy (about 150 pages?).

The Passion of Ayn Rand is a good movie if you want to learn more about her weird private life. Helen Mirren plays Ayn, Eric Stoltz is Nathaniel Brandon, her one time heir apparent and lover who fell from grace, and Peter Fonda is Ayn's hapless husband.

It's a collection of her writings, biography and writings by others about her and her work. The biography, The Passion of Ayn Rand by Barbara Branden is a great companion pice to reading Rand's fiction.

heledd,

"Atlas Shrugged" is definitely fiction but it has serious philosophical undertones. Ayn Rand, the author, was a philosopher and the originator of a philosophy called "Objectivism." I've read almost all of her non-fiction but none of her fiction as of yet.
