Something has been nagging at the back of my brain (pun intended).

Many of the references and examples would apply only to Western music. I mean the music of Western Europe and the combination of Western Europe and African music found in today's popular culture. Would, music's positive effect on aphasia be the same if we were talking about Eastern (Asian) music? I can't see how, the rhythms are so different.

I have to admit that I have never heard of "emotional memory." That is new and interesting. Amnesia does not effect emotional memory. The discussion has returned to a limited number of anecdotes. Our hero gets better after 20+ years so is it possible that his musical abilities simply were not effected?
