What are you currently reading?

I locked the several previous "what are you currently reading" threads because they were massive. Let's start fresh!

What are you reading right now?

I have decided to start House of War: The Pentagon and the Disastrous Rise of American Power by James Carroll. The basic premise of the book, according to its back flap, is that the Pentagon is essentially a rogue organization beyond the control of civilian leadership and serves, effectvely, to undermine national security.

I like Saramago's style, it sems he is dancing with words.

"The haunting of Hill House" by Shirley Jackson. Not as awesome as Poe's "The fall of house of Usher" but I gave it a shot :)

Aqueda_Veronica.....I see you are a Poe fan. I just read a very good short story by Russell Banks re. Poe. It is called The Caul and is in Banks' collection of short stories called, The Angel on the Roof.

Machine Man by Max Barry, an author recommended by a member here on Booktalk (Avid Reader). Here's the publisher's blurb:

Scientist Charles Neumann loses a leg in an industrial accident. It’s not a tragedy. It’s an opportunity. Charlie always thought his body could be better. He begins to explore a few ideas. To build parts. Better parts.

Prosthetist Lola Shanks loves a good artificial limb. In Charlie, she sees a man on his way to becoming artificial everything. But others see a madman. Or a product. Or a weapon.

A story for the age of pervasive technology, Machine Man is a gruesomely funny unraveling of one man’s quest for ultimate self-improvement.

And the author's website:

I'm about halfway through and loving it!

Thanks so much for the awesome tip Lindad_Amato :)
Just found the story online and read it in one go, even though usually I hate reading e-books. Such a fascinating piece, loved it!

Yesterday I started The Weight of Silence by Heather Gudenkauf. I requested it from the local library quite some time ago. I must of wanted to read it. Gotta feeling it will be too depressing though. I'll give it the 50 page rule.
