It seems such a shame that no one else has commented on a lot of these stories. I was hoping to see something here when I logged in for this one. I feel that this story is one of Gaiman's best so far. Sure the Shoggoth story was fun and entertaining, but THIS this is a masterpiece. Not only is the child made real by the words but the interwoven reality and evil throughout it makes me feel so ..... understood. The metaphor that comes to mind is like a harsh light that shows you all of the jagged knives you are about to step on littering the floor, the breaks and tears, the dirt and garbage strewn about. BUT, this child makes it all right. Its like you read this story and even pedophilia seems like just another evil that happens and that people who go through these horrible things are still people, still full of light and hope and dreams. This is a story that made me think and feel and really reflect on myself.

I truly hope someone else considers the option of enjoying it. If so, your thoughts would be appreciated.

I see these stories didn't get much comment . . . Jeff and I are currently reading a book that we can easily give up . . . it's due back at the library in a couple of days anyway.

So . . . I'm taking that one back and we will start Smoke and Mirrors. I'll comment as we read each story.

(what is it with online book discussions lately? nobody's reading? nawwww! nobody's discussing? yeah . . . they're on the threads alright, but talking about everything else but the book! writing forums around the web seem to be slow too)
