I am a Southerner who never read a lot of Southern authors until I was challenged on Goodreads. One of the first books I read in this "genre" (after Flannery O"Connor) was Classic Crews: A Harry Crews Reader. Wow! What an amazing author. His stories have that "grit" that southern writers often display and his characters are incredible. I found myself thinking "I have known all of these people". They are all so Southern. Many would be considered "poor white trash". His themes tend to be a bit raw. I would love to hear from others who have read this (or other books by him) and find out what you thought.

I am a book collector and have in my library a beautiful copy of Franklin Press the Uncollected Stories of William Faulkner that I am going to read next. The process of writing this post got me thinking about it... Is there anyone else out there who would like to read it and chat about it?
