Panther in the Sky by James Thom is a good example of historical fiction. It covers the life of Tecumseh who attempted to unite Native American tribes against the settlers. It includes details of upbringing in the Shawnee Nation, the Ghost Dance disaster, details of specific battles, etc.

The Infidel's Garden by Ingrid Banwell looks very interesting. It somehow manages to discuss the painter Hieronymus Bosch, Persian miniature paintings, and the complex concept of Jihad. I have not read it, but I'm intrigued...
