Hi everyone! Lately, I've been considering joining a book club on goodreads to try and broaden my reading horizons and get to know fellow readers. Unfortunately, I have absolutely no clue where to even start. If you're a part of a goodreads or other online book club, please share your experiences/ recommendations!

Side note - If anyone wants to be friends on goodreads I am super duper down with that.

@ nickiejcrome: You do realize that you’ve posted questions about online book discussions, on an actual online book discussion forum “club” right?

I have a little experience with Goodreads, and I like it, but I choose to spend my limited online time on this site. It has a lot of opportunities to discuss a wide range of topics, not just the book chosen. Goodreads has dedicated forums for genres and periods of literature and history. So just think about where you fit in and try one out, or browse their categories until one strikes you.

This is the best book club I have found. Was more active around the mid 2000s. I agree with DWill that this is the best place for a wide range of discussion on books and other topics.

I like BookTalk. I might not engage in every discussion because the genre not of particular interest to me, but I do like that people have passion about what they read.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for replying! Obviously, booktalk is a great website for discussing books! I love to talk about books on here. The reason I was looking for a goodreads-specific book club is because those are a different environment from a forum site like this one. I value the open discussion on this website, but a conversation about a set book with a smaller, set group of people is valuable in its own way.

Is there a particular book or genre you want to discuss? There's a lot of people on the site. Someone might have an interest. :)

Not particularly. I’m mostly looking to read things I wouldn’t usually, as I kind of feel I’ve been reading the same genre over and over. I’ve never been in a book club before so I figured goodreads might be a good place to start.

Maybe try to make one with your real-life friends! It seems like a stretch, but if everyone agrees to compromise you'd be amazed at how much all of you will broaden your horizons. It doesn't have to be a lot of people, 3-4 is just enough. - Gustavo Woltmann
