I am a compulsive and omnivorous reader. It would be impossible for me to name a favorite. Here are some books which I have read over the past couple of years that I liked. You did not mention genre, so the fiction books are general fictin.

Hard to pick a single one that outranks the others.
If I had to say which one I would most look forward to opening and re-reading, it would probably be Tolkein's "Lord of the Rings." Somewhat of a war-like book, though. One of the most high-impact for me was "Tuck Everlasting" (which is also short). Ursula LeGuin's "Earthsea" trilogy (starting with "A Wizard of Earthsea") was wonderful, especially the first.
There are some less fantasy-oriented that can still make a big change in a person's outlook. "To Kill a Mockingbird" of course, and some that used to be classics but have dropped below the radar horizon, like "To Sir with Love" and "Gathering Blue." Tony Hillerman's Navajo books are amazing, as are the mysteries by Ellis Peters about Brother Cadfael.
Honorable mentions to "The Scarlet Letter" and "Silas Marner".

The Cyberiad by Lem.
It's spectacularly well written. It was originally written in Polish. I don't know Polish so I read the English version, and remarkably, it's filled with extremely clever wordplay.
