Hi everyone.
My name's Matt and I am a Yr 12 Extension English student currently living in Sydney, Australia. I wanted to reach out to this forum because as part of a class task I am trying to broaden my knowledge of texts beyond that of American and British writers and read texts from author's that reside in other parts of the world. I would like to ask as fellow reading enthusiasts if any of you have come across English translated texts from parts of the world such as Africa, Asia, South America or Eastern Europe bordering on Russia, that you could recommend to me to read? Any texts are appreciated so please don't hold back.
Thanks so much,
Matt.

Re: Literature from around The World
Hi Matt, nice to chat with another Aussie (I'm in Qld but worked in Sydney for many years). I interview a different guest author each week on my website http://www.ritaleechapman.com and I know Gabriela Azevedo published her book Ask My Ashes in Portuguese and English.

I don't read many translations, but Gabriel Garcia Marquez comes to mind. One Hundred Years of Solitude and The Autumn of the Patriarch stood out. The Gregory Rebassa translations. The English is very lyrical.

I read a couple of novels by Heinrich Boll that I liked. The Train Was on Time stood out. Hold on...

That passage about Bach has always stuck in my mind. Surprised I was able to pull it up in a search.
Yukio Mishima's Sea of Fertility tetralogy is amazing.

Hi Matt, I'm also new to this site. I live in the UK. I think I'd start by saying that Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe is a novel that gives a very sharp view on life in Africa. I think Milan Kundera is good writer to start with when looking at Eastern European writers, and Borges is an astonishing Argentinian writer - full of imagination, drollery and erudition.

Hello! Welcome to the forum.
As an option, I can recommend to check out freelancer's sites for writers, they sometimes publish their translations there.
