I hope folks don't think I've become obsessed with the flat earth subject. On the contrary, it's just one interesting example of what BookTalk is about: FACTS as in Freethought, Atheism, Critical Thinking, and Science. Consider some of the characteristics of many Flerfers.
Confirmation bias on a massive scale. They instantly dismiss counter-arguments and in so doing are literally not able to perceive any information that goes against their perceptions.
As DWill stated, "This seems to show how an individual's subjective view can be pushed to the ultimate extreme. If through my senses as I walk around my patch of the earth I can't see any "roundness" in the earth, a round earth must not exist!" This may start with a basic "common sense" foundation.
There is frequently a weird focus on what => I <= have observed, which takes precedence over what anyone else believes, regardless of their expertise or education. My Personal Opinion, Confidence, and Truth outweigh the corrupt knowledge of experts.
They start to become isolated as their friends and even family become extremely annoyed at the Flerfer's obsession. Divorce is common. I saw a video where a Flerfer complained they cannot even go out in public anymore because they know the typical individual encountered will have utterly ridiculous beliefs about a spherical earth. It doesn't occur to them to keep their trap shut on that subject for even brief periods of time.
Once isolated from family, friends, coworkers, and neighbors they become ensconced within an online community that encourages further obsession. In contrast to the depth of what they have lost, they celebrate these new superficial relationships.
Although they may have already lost family, friends, coworkers, and neighbors, they are terrified at losing this new community of like minded folks and will latch onto it like nothing before. All doubt must be suppressed!
A neurological rewiring of the brain may happen where doubt is not even encountered.
Consider all of the above is applicable to many other areas in life...
Religion
Political cults
Age of the earth
How long 'til Jesus returns
Ethics & morals
Etc.....

Forgot to post updates about The Final Experiment. Here's an update from Jeran Campanella, one of the flat earthers in Antarctica. He accepts the 24 hour sun exists there, but has not made the leap to questioning his model.
I have seen him and Austin Witsit, another Flerfer who went to Antarctica, attacking those who say the 24 hour sun didn't happen. Again, unsure if they have abandoned the flat earth model yet. Neither one has posted much since that trip.
Dunno if you can see this now, but here's a live stream of Former Flerfer Jeran who was part of The Final Experiment viciously attacking other Flerfers for not accepting evidence that contradicts their opinions. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NEFZf9Z0srA

10 hours! I'll skip it. I read some of the comments at that youtube video, and that was enough information. Jeran is starting to accept that the Earth isn't flat. Good enough for me. Also, Flerfers are nasty to him.
