Ending in Angels - "I definitely laughed and I definitely cried. I’m such a cliché!" (Sophie)
Dear Booktalk Community,
I feel privileged to share my novel "Ending in Angels" with you.
"Ending in Angels" is a novel about overcoming challenges. The main character, Dave, is growing up with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. Middle school, high school, and college can be difficult times in life for anyone: facing them in a wheelchair is an extra challenge Dave must take on. Like many adolescents, Dave battles bullying, anxiety, insecurity, grief, depression, and even suicidal thoughts. Luckily, he is able to use his relationships and memories to help him cope. Laughing with his best friend, listening to his Dad, and getting to know his first love gives him strength during the hardest periods of his life. But when he finds himself alone without these three people, who can he lean on? Dave sets out on a journey across the country and a journey through his own thoughts and feelings. And so Dave's journey to find them begins. The question is: where will his journey end?
The book is a tribute to Arthritis Foundation, Michigan Chapter and I hope it will serve as inspiration to others too. So I cautiously offer the book up for your delight. If any of you find it inspirational, I should be most genuinely happy.
Thank you for reading and please feel free to let your reviews/suggestions below.

Your book has now traveled to Nashville and San Francisco with me and I’ve finished the read. I really liked it, Ben. Since I know you and your family, I could see parts of your personal history in there, of course. It was well written and engaging. I found when I finished it, I wanted to go back and re-read some parts for clarity and memory. I think it’s a great book for our teens with arthritis and their parents.

In Ending in Angels, Ben Graham artfully weaves together threads from his protagonist’s middle school, high school, college and present day experiences, the result being a beautiful portrayal of the tapestry of his life. Graham keeps the reader engrossed, entertained by his hilarity, touched by his poignancy, and inspired by his journey. This book should be on everyone’s must read list.

I wanted you to know I read your book Ending in Angels, and I loved it. It's one of those books that had me rationing out the number of pages I'd read per evening because I didn't want it to end. I'd have consumed another hundred pages gladly. Thanks again for writing a book that touched me very deeply.

Remarkable. Would be useful to anyone working with adolescents with chronic illness.
