They call him Flipper...

Watch this video and see how Kerry has flip-flopped on the Iraq war. And remember, you are a freethinker. Even if you're a Democrat and Bush-hater, watch this with an open mind and be honest with yourself. They call him FlipperOh, and then visit www.swiftvets.com to see how out of 23 Swift Boat Veterans, only 2 support Kerry. The others deem him as "unfit" for service. I wonder what they know that we don't.Chris "For Every Winner, There Are Dozens Of Losers. Oh my.Let me make my views clear here and now.I voted for George W. Bush. I thought, given his representation of his policy, that he was a better candidate than Al Gore. I am convinced that I would make the same decision today given the facts known at the time. This election, I will vote for John Kerry. It could easily be Nader, but their platforms are remarkably similar and I, frankly, don't want GW back in office for another 4 years. In response however, to the video and it's preceiding post..Quote:Watch this video and see how Kerry has flip-flopped on the Iraq war. And remember, you are a freethinker. Even if you're a Democrat and Bush-hater, watch this with an open mind and be honest with yourself. The video is strictly propoganda...frankly, it admits as much simply by giving the closing credits. This is why I like the attention that Moore has given to the democratic ticket. This is exactly what the Republicans are good at.Take this - minute 7, second 11.It cuts Kerry off after only a few words, when obviously he had more to say.11:20 and 11:39 are similar misrepresentations. All in all though, I'd say this video was pretty clear. On THIS issue, Kerry did not flip flop. He qualified, yes. But flip flop? A poor example. On the issue of flip flopping in general though...(and I haven't looked up Kerry's voting record)...I'd say the charachterizations that I've heard are empty. People, especially over time as the learn more, change their minds. It's allowed. It's good! If an idea sounds good, you might vote for it...Perhaps then, additional information is brought to your attention...The information may well inform you of some previously unrecognized consequence of the legislation...so you change your vote...Another instance in which you might vote against something that you would normally had voted for is a rider. A rider is a piece of legislation attached to another piece of legislation. Take, for instance, a financial package to give aid to the poor. (Extreme example yes, but bear w/ me)...but alongside and attached to this bill, as a rider, is a proposal to kill all hispanic immigrants using lethal injection as a vehicle (another extreme example, but I'm just making a point). The bill for the poor sounds great...but it's rider is crap...so you reject the whole bill. Now you've rejected a bill that would've helped the poor! You dirty hooker! What's wrong with you?So, in closing, I haven't examined all of Kerry's votes. But I don't, in general, have any problem with his changing his mind, or with changing his vote, based on the facts available. In Vino Veritas

Rick:VERY well put! Especially the part about the riders. Also: Since being a freethinker means you are open to change your mind...I would say that Kerry would be more of a freethinker than Bush!JK! They all suck.I vote for Gore because I knew then that in 4 years I would not want Bush for another four years.Mr. P. The one thing of which I am positive is that there is much of which to be negative - Mr. P.I came to get down, I came to get down. I didn't feel I had that luxury. My state (MD) is full of democrats. I didn't feel that I wanted Gore (at the time) over Bush...I feel strongly about defense issues and socialism issues...(a helping hand? Yes. Handouts? No...differentiating is a tough issue.I didn't have a complete picture about what a Bush presidency would mean whoever...and now that I know....ABB In Vino Veritas
