I would like to suggest that we do 'The Rattle Bag' - anthology of poetry selected by Ted Hughes and Seamus Heaney???

Do you think this would be a suitable choice Saffron and DWill? I think it's suitably meaty.

Sure, I think it would be interesting to see what those two picked. But do you know if it's available online?

I cannot find it online, nor is it at our local library. We would have to put out cash. It looks as if one could be had on Amazon used for about $10.00 (includes shipping). If there were a few other people that would commit to getting the book, I would. Maybe this time we could take turns posting the poems or sort of presenting them.

I would love to follow along....I don't know if I can help out with any dependability right now though.

Last time I looked we had a copy where I work - and I fancied dipping into it but would have liked some guidance on appreciation of the selection.......... appreciation, Giselle!!!!

I could copy and paste the selections onto here and you, others, could do the initial commentary, if you like.

If one person has the book, and the poems can be looked up online, that solves the problem. All we'd need is a list of the poems, and then we could follow saffron's suggestion of taking turns posting them. It depends on whether Heaney and Hughes chose poems that someone has thought deserve to be online. I'm thinking, of course, that nobody wants to go typing in the poems. Even if everyone had the book, it's nice for the poem to be seen on booktalk.

True, and anyway, if we don't actually post the poems, we are unlikely to attract new customers, so to speak.

Is Walt Whitman's 'Leaves of Grass' just one poem, or is it a collection of his poetry? I like what I've seen of his work although I don't know much about him.

"Leaves of Grass" is the collection that Whitman added to and revised throughout his life. "Song of Myself' is the major poem in it, and the one I like the best. I'm not that keen on some of Whitman's poems. I think your Hughes/Heaney anthology idea is good, if somebody can find a copy in order to see whether the poems would be found online.

I'll go to the bookstore on Friday/Saturday, get it, and check out the selection. We are out for the day tomorrow so I can't go then.
