It is not 'legal' here, but it is allowed under some circumstances, such as medicinal use. I do know of someone who has a medicinal license and is able to grow his own for his own use. He is not allowed to transport it, only use it at home.
This is very reasonable, I wish we had such a law in France. They're absolutely inflexible here.
I may have written this already, but I was shocked by a report I saw on TV a few years ago when a man with terminal cancer was actually sent to jail for growing cannabis for medicinal purposes in his garden.

I guess until the laws are changed there is a fear that any acceptance of it will cause everyone to be growing it in their backyards. Maybe that would be a good thing.
I have heard that it is very helpful for cancer patients and what better use could it be put to? I guess it is very important to study those long-term effects before those patients with a few months to live can possible be allowed to have it. Change is slow.

Oh this looks like a fun topic.

In Canada, or at least in my parts it is not legal. But I do know of doctors who have told cancer patients and people who suffer with arthritis to use it.

I figure it should be legal. Goverment run like booze. What worries me about the pot you can buy off the streets these days is what its laced with. As a kid growing up in the 70's (if you can remember the 70's you weren't there) I tried just about anything that didn't involve a needle. Pot back then was pretty tame, you could share half a joint with a friend no problem. Now adays you take one hit and your fried. I have heard that the pushers are putting meth in with the pot and getting them hooked on that.

I don't smoke, period, because I've had a history of asthma.

Personally, the smell of it makes me sick..

Sometimes while sitting on the freeway the smell of it is everywhere. I can't understand how people can be smoking it while driving and not worry about being pulled over by the cops.

A childhood friend of mine still smokes it. He's been doing it for over 30 years.

He's not the brightest bulb in the circuit - but thinks he is.

Ant, what about edibles? With edibles you don't have the negative of smoke.

I have never had the edibles.

Just as long as people aren't high while driving.. It's a public safety issue and seems like an easy way to be getting high while sitting in traffic.
It's rampant here in Los Angeles now.. especially after everyone is on the freeway going back home from work.

Many many moons ago I took "a hit" with a Gothic girl I was trying to get in the sack with.
It was one of the worst experiences of my life. I

I eventually slept with her a few times :bananadance: , but not that night.. I was too ill from whatever it was I inhaled that evening. My lungs burned for about 2 days after.

The thing about edibles is that they are very slow to take effect.

This is true. You could eat edibles out in public and nobody would have a clue what you're doing. But unless you're on a serious road trip involving hours of driving consuming edibles in the car isn't likely to impact that particular car ride.

For the record, this is the current situation in Canada re cannabis laws and regulations with some differences among provinces on details such as distribution.

Cannabis Legalization and Regulation

The Cannabis Act creates a strict legal framework for controlling the production, distribution, sale and possession of cannabis across Canada. The Act aims to accomplish 3 goals:

keep cannabis out of the hands of youth
keep profits out of the pockets of criminals
protect public health and safety by allowing adults access to legal cannabis

What is legal as of October 17, 2018
Subject to provincial or territorial restrictions, adults who are 18 years of age or older are legally able to:

possess up to 30 grams of legal cannabis, dried or equivalent in non-dried form in public
share up to 30 grams of legal cannabis with other adults buy dried or fresh cannabis and cannabis oil from a provincially-licensed retailer in provinces and territories without a regulated retail framework, individuals are able to purchase cannabis online from federally-licensed producers
grow, from licensed seed or seedlings, up to 4 cannabis plants per residence for personal use
make cannabis products, such as food and drinks, at home as long as organic solvents are not used to create concentrated products.

As of October 17, 2019, cannabis edible products and concentrates are legal for sale.

And life goes on as usual. Many people who enjoyed trusted suppliers before Oct 17, 2018 continue to purchase from them, those who want the regulated product will go that route.
