Re: George R. R. Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire"

I'm not really much of a fantasy reader either (although I've been learning over the last year or so...) I read the Martin books, love them, and well, pretty much can't find anything else with their mix of everything that he offers. I hate magic, however I was pleasantly surprised by Patrick Rothfus...

Re: Is Don Quixote Unreadable?

I began reading Don a few years ago and bailed somewhere around the 150page mark...it was unreadable to me - not because of structure or language or any of that, but because all of the tales have been retold so many times that I felt I had already read the book...

Re: Do not judge a book by.......

Well, the greatest book cover of all time has to be JD Salinger's Catcher in the Rye....since he knew that people were affected by the book's cover, Catcher is always sold blank (except for 1 edition that had a drawing of the carousel on it).... I'm not sure that I have a favorite....I do like when ...

Re: Reading for pleasure! What are you reading now?

Based off of a friend's suggestion I just started The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss today....it's well written, but I don't like science fiction or magic stuff...so....not sure how this whole thing is gonna go...

Re: What do you think of the Kindle or electronic readers?

I've had my Nook for a few weeks now and just really got the chance to use it...in fact just yesterday I finished my first book on it. The actual reading experience is absolutely amazing - its the same as reading an actual book - actually its better - the book that I read had extremely small font in...

Re: Has anyone read, "Juliet, Naked: A Novel

I actually just finished reading it this weekend. Overall I thought it was great, well, way above average anyway, but I hated the ending...thought he kind of just bailed on it. As a music nerd and someone going through a few of the things in the novel, I loved it. Plus, he mentioned Leonard Cohen 5 ...

Re: The Great Gatsby. Is it really a great ...

Oddly enough I just went back and read Gatsby last week. It was the first time in something like 15, 16 years that I read it. It really is not only the great American novel of the 20s but it holds a timeless quality that makes it relevant today. You have this great Greek like tragedy love and death ...

Re: Kindle, What Do You Think?

Forget the Kindle...it's all about the Nook!! Barnes&Noble's e-reader releases in the states just before xmas and sometime in the new year everywhere else - exact dates aren't available yet. Its features seem to far out do anything that the Kindle (or the sony reader) can do, it supports all fil...

Re: Reading for pleasure! What are you reading now?

Literally just finished (about half an hour ago) The Road by McCarthy. Its a fantastic novel, terrificly inventive style, I just don't share the same opitmistic world view as the author, so the ending left it feeling a bit hollow for me.
Next up is going to be Snow by Orhan Pamuk I think...

Wow, how excruciating was this book? I still haven't finished it. I'm embarassed to say that I'm being very tempted (pun intended) to skip on to book V.
What a pointless bore! Seems that this book must have been included just to get to the total of 12 total books.
