Re: IS NOTHING SACRED?

Tat, I don't know what you are trying to prove. Even more important is who you are trying to prove it to: to me or to the religions that espouse creation ex nihilo. If it's to me, don't bother, since I don't believe that something can come from nothing. If you are trying to prove to those religions ...

Re: IS NOTHING SACRED?

Tat, trying to reason through the myth of religions is an impossible task, since the myth itself is not based on reason or logic. It is pointless explaining that monotheistic religions do not "really" believe in creation from nothing. They do. They have to, as I explained. If instead they ...

Re: IS NOTHING SACRED?

Because they erroneously associated zero with "nothing", which was a theological no-no. They should have known better, since mathematicians of the day made it clear that zero was not "nothing". The problem was faulty translation from Arabic to Latin.

Re: IS NOTHING SACRED?

I don't "suppose" it. It's what I discovered after quite a bit of research on the subject. The facts and evidence are set out in the first chapter of my book.

Re: IS NOTHING SACRED?

"I'm saying that when broken down and considered carefully, creation ex nihilo is a creation from something after all, be it creation from God or whatever." You are entitled to say whatever you want, Tat, but in this case, you are simply wrong. The whole point of belief in creation ex nihi...

Re: IS NOTHING SACRED?

Tat, thanks for quoting from my site. I don't know why you state that "The idea of a universe which came from nothing is pretty out as far as religion goes." In fact, I'm amazed. The fundamental issue of Western monotheistic religions is that God created the universe from nothing. This is ...

Re: Something from nothing?

<t>Robert, Your questions would be "answered" - or at least dealt with - using my distinction between Nothing and nothingness. <br/> <br/> Your reference to Zen shows that you have not actually read what I wrote about this distinction, so I can only repeat that Zen does not refer to Nothing, but to ...

Re: Something from nothing?

Robert, I am reading with interest your thesis on Heidegger, and thank you for posting the links above. One sentence of yours struck me: "The point of the existential analytic is that true statements only acquire value as they are situated in the human context, that meaning must be created by p...
