Re: The Brothers Karamazov selected for next fiction discussion
Awesome! Now I'm sure I've got a copy of that laying around here somewhere...can't wait to start the discussion.

I would definitely read The Brothers Karamazov (again).

Vince Flynn
Has anyone else read any of his work? I was introduced to him by a librarian who knows what I like to read, and she said a lot of people were big fans. Now while popularity doesn't exactly equal quality, I decided to give it a shot. I realize that political thrillers are a dime a dozen nowadays, but...

Re: What was your college major?
Which semester? I started out wet behind the ears, on a quest to become an English teacher...until I did my first few class observations and decided there was no way I was going to do that for 30k/year. Switched to Political Science, moved on to Paralegal Science, finally settling on Public Relation...

Re: Religilous
I'm not sure that he set out to change anyone's mind. Anyone who can think will see the film for exactly what it is, propaganda. Is it right? Not necessarily. But I don't see it as being any worse than religious propaganda or scare tactics. I think that's a lot of the reason people are so confused a...

Re: What convinces you give a new author a chance?
It has to be something new, something I haven't seen before. If I pick up a novel by an unestablished writer and I see "vampire" anywhere near the description, I put it back down, along with any other subject that has been done to death (i.e., secret treasure maps leading to some historica...

Re: Who's your favourite private eye or detective character?
I've always been a big Spenser fan, I think mostly because his wit and sarcasm reminds me so much of myself. I like Tana French's characters, although I'm not sure if it's because they're good detectives per se or just because I like her writing. Lisa Lutz's Spellman family are always a good read.

Re: Religilous
Agreed. I think a lot of people who have an issue with the film (apart from the obvious) are the people who viewed it in order to get a logical argument either for or against religion. It was basically 90+ minutes of Bill Maher making fun of faith, which, while entertaining, isn't exactly enlighteni...

Religilous
Not sure if anyone else has seen this, but I watched it the other night and thought it brought about several good points, both for and against religion. I'm interested to see what others think.
