Re: The Hot 100
"So long as men can breathe, or eyes can see, So long lives this, and this gives life to thee." Immortality via Shakespeare. Who could ask for more? Shakespeare's use of metaphors never fails me. Though to be compared to a Summer's day....I guess it's just a matter of from whence you come....

Re: Epilogue: Myth and Society
I'm just getting active again on this site, but I was curious about this book, so I decided to poke my nose in this thread to get an idea of how the book was received. I know I'm a bit backwards starting at the epilogue, but oh well. This discussion has caught my attention, so I've found a copy and ...

Re: Obama turns down golf games because they send the wrong message
Ha ha ha. If it makes you feel any better, Chris, I was going to point out that Obama went to a resort and played golf a few days after the BP explosion in the Gulf. The timing could have been a little better on that vacation. Then again, it probably just sticks in my head as it hit so close to home.

Re: The Hot 100
Oh 'Ode to a Nightingale'. I believe my AP English class spent an entire month dissecting that poem, and I wish I were exaggerating. I think I even had to memorize it for some reason. Nevertheless, I do love that poem and most of Keats' work. He writes with such fluidity all the while incorporating ...

Re: Pictures of the oil slick.
Finally! It's hard to move on and look to the future when oil is replacing what gets cleaned away. That will continue for a while, but now we can really start working on recovery and cleaning up my beautiful marshlands.

Re: The believer cannot be swayed by facts.
You know, recently I read this article about how impossibly difficult it's becoming to be a teacher. You almost have to be a Harvard grad, and even then near the top of your class. At least in some places. How are our teachers required to have such stringent credentials, but the leader of our natio...

Re: The morality of the Bible?
If I love my wife part of my love is not available to love God. If I love God, my love can flow through God to my wife. What about the concept that God is present in everyone, residing in every heart? (To those who do not believe in God, think hypothetically.) Thus, by loving your wife, you are, in...

Re: Joyeux Quatorze Juillet!
You're definitely not the only one! One year when I was a kid, my mom set up a waiter's race for a couple of my friends and me. (They didn't know what Bastille Day was.) Another year, I think she hid blue, white, and red Mardi Gras beads around my backyard for us to hunt like Easter eggs as somethin...
