I agree with Clara. The two contrasting elements can be "lightness" and "darkness." The light represents civilization (the white men) or the civilized side of the world and the dark represents the uncivilized (Africans) or savage side of the world.

Ida from 1st period. I think this book is called the Heart of Darkness because Marlow is getting into the heart of Africa, and this is when he realizes and sees all the chaos thats happening. Comment: A lot of people think of Mr. Kurtz as dominant/ powerful and especially Marlow, he seems very excited about meeting him. I think that in the end of the story, Mr. Kurtz will be the opposite of what he was expected to be. Marlow has yet a lot more to discover and learn from his journey.
