Re: Who plans to read and discuss Don Quixote?

Me too! Or shall I say yo también? Luckily, tilting at windmills is a favorite activity of mine ;-)

I've read bits of this in Spanish, but I think it will be much more fun to read it straight through in my native language.

Re: What is your relationship with music?

I'm so glad you started this topic, it will be interesting to get everyone's responses! I have also always been passionate about music. As a child, I constantly listened to the radio (mostly the golden oldies radio station, as well as the rock stations). It didn't take long for me to learn the words...

Re: How do you arrange your bookshelf?

Also, I have all my books in Delicious Library, so if I ever want to peruse and see only things I've not read, that's very easy to do. I have Delicious Library as well, and I love it. I just found all the Library of Congress call numbers for my books, and I think I'm going to start organizing them ...

Re: The Overcoat

The story can be read as "what happens to someone who forgets (try to live beyond) their station in life." Since this is Gogol I doubt that is what he intended. More like "there is no joy or justice for those who strive for a little bit of happiness in this unfair world." I agre...

Re: Favorite character in literature?

When I was in grade school/junior high, the "gifted" class (or extra challenges for intelligent students, whatever they call it these days) consisted of myself and three other boys who spent most of their time goofing off while I was trying to be serious about gaining the extra learning. ...

Re: What movie scared you when you were a kid?

Yes, "Saw" is mostly after the "shock effect." It's not really a movie that'll make your paranoid for the rest of the night. The term, I believe, is "torture porn." I'm not a big fan of that term, but I do love the Saw movies. The last one actually made a sort-of state...

That looks really interesting! Thanks for recommending it, I've just put that on my (far too long already) to read list.

Re: What movie scared you when you were a kid?

Friday the 13th. I was four and I snuck out of bed and went downstairs. I only saw about three minutes of it but.......Ick :( This is one of the first horror movies I saw, it terrified me as well! I got nightmares from The Good Son , strangely enough. For the most part, I was pretty unperturbed by ...
