Re: WANTED: Book Suggestions for our Sept., Oct. and Nov. NON-FICTION discussion!

Well, that was certainly quick and painless! That's the way to do it. I'll go ahead and order my copy.

Re: Vacation in Greece

Pres, extremely hot there at the moment so be prepared. And don't be surprised if the food is luke warm (it's supposed to be). My daughter will be on San Turin for her best friend's wedding at the same time (send happy thoughts). And don't confuse dried capers for pistachios :))
Have fun!

And one to "combine" the above two suggestions :) Susan Heiman's "Evil in Modern Thought: an alternative history of philosophy". From Amazon: Evil threatens human reason, for it challenges our hope that the world makes sense. For eighteenth-century Europeans, the Lisbon earthquak...

Leprechauns vs YECs at the Giant's Causeway

This was in the Guardian online this morning: Andrew Brown guardian.co.uk, Friday 6 July 2012 12.22 BST What made the creationist footprints in the Giant's Causeway visitor centre? The National Trust isn't endorsing the nonsense of the young Earthers – it just knows the value of the crank pound Stac...

Re: What does your BookTalk.org username mean?

My name comes from a poem by one of my favorite poets, John Clare, entitle "I am" "I am: yet what I am none cares or knows, My friends forsake me like a memory lost; I am the self-consumer of my woes, They rise and vanish in oblivious host, Like shades in love and death's oblivion los...

Re: Survey of Readers and Reading Online

Thanks for the link and congratulations on the survey. I have to admit I was surprised (and pleased) discovering that most of us buy our books from a bookstore and prefer the printed copy. Thanks for sharing!

Re: Reading for pleasure! What are you reading now? (Part 2)

I'm reading "Forgotten Country" by Catherine Chung and am diligently working my way through Amihai Mazar's "Archaeology of the Land of the Bible: 10,000-586 BCE. The latter is taking quite a while, but I'm enjoying it. And I'm even enjoying World War Z in spite of myself.

Re: Ch. 1: Warnings

I really, really hate to admit this, but I've found myself actually lenjoying the book. Whether Zombies, chemical warfare or pandemics--of which we have had a few scares in the last couple of years--the book touches just enough on reality to actually make it scary. I don't know whether or not I'll c...

Re: Glad to be aboard

Cattleman, although this sounds like a Zombie story, it is much more (Zombies are more or less the frame)...I was hesitant to read it at first as well but am glad I relented. I think we do have a rather nice standard here and we wouldn't be reading it otherwise :; I'm sure you'll find a discussion o...
