Would that mean that King Solomon could be represented by the man in the interlude between Ch. 1 and 2? Also, Bilquis comes back in a later interlude, where she kills the man that was showing obsession for her.

A deeper theme here is the potential redemption of technology through the validation of ancient wisdom.
Sorry, what do you mean by that? Where is this theme seen?

I'm at the part where Shadow has settled into Lakeside, and he certainly is trying to reinvent himself there. He's attempting to have friendly relations to the Chief of Police, and he claims that he's trying to remember everyone's name. The cold, perhaps a symbol for his "ex-con" status, h...

Well, I have not finished the book yet but I can say that Shadow strikes me as compelling for the reason of Hope. I sat thinking about why his character is so intriguing and comforting...but it comes down to the fact that no matter what happens to him or what bad things he inadvertently or otherwis...

Re: Places of power

A lot of land is eaten up by these establishments, nature is not being respected. It reminds me of that song, one of the lines, "they dug up the trees and put them in a tree museum". It is sad to think that this line might actually become reality, it's scary too. That's "Big Yellow T...

Hey...what is the significance of the quote the Wednesday gives about places of power? In other words, what does it mean? In other coutnries, over the years, people recognized the places of power. Sometimes it would be a natural formation, sometimes it would be a place that was just, somehow, specia...

Suzanne E. Smith: I see a theme of good versus evil running through this book, and I think that good will win. In my opinion, Wednesday is the symbol of evil and Shadow is the symbol of good, although Shadow certainly is not perfect I agree with the good vs. evil theme. I think Gaiman may also be hi...

As I'm nearly finished with an English class about analyzing and interpretation of literature, I naturally, when reading chapter one, wonder why Shadow is described so dully, and, throughout the first few chapters, thinks very shallowly. Does he represent mainstream America that has forgotten about ...

All these metaphors about the gods showing messages about our society sounds interesting...but is there going to be a chapter-by-chapter discussion of this where we can discuss more minor details and aspects of the plot in the book?

Robert, You say that "Only those Gods who resonate with perceived needs are remembered". Is Gaiman is trying to show that only the "modern, electronic technology Gods" are remembered by "modern era people"? While only the older Gods with connections to longstanding huma...
