Re: George R. R. Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire"

Rue, I have some great news for you! I too have been searching like mad for another series like George R R Martin's Song of Ice and Fire, especially since he seems particularly loathe to finish it :x I found a new author and a new series that is very good. In the same style even...with twists and tu...

Re: Religion in Left Hand of Darkness

These are all great observations. I don't have much to add to what has already been said, I also agree that the "to oppose something is to maintain it" idea is something atheists should consider when vehemently opposing the presence of God. Its like I've always heard said about hate being ...

Re: Overall Impression of the book

I agree with Bleached eden from another thread that the book was very thought provoking but I wasn't sure if I liked it or not. It was not very climactically oriented, but more eastern school of thought oriented as a vignette of life and not so much a story with a a "start...buildup...climax......

Re: Ch. 13 - Down on the Farm

thanks for your thoughts on this. I am surprised more people didn't have something to say about this book. I read it as fast as I could to get to the discussion and realized there really wasn't much of one.

Re: Invite an Atheist to BookTalk

On the contrary, Oblivion, I believe the only reason to discuss and argue points of an issue are to either convince someone else you are right or to realize that you are wrong. It is way for people to explain their point of view (which to them seems flawless) so that the other can see the obvious lo...

Overall Impression of the book

I ordered this book from my library to participate in the book discussion and it seems that there really isn't a lot going on in the forum. What were people's general impressions of the book? I came away from the reading of it with a feeling of having read one of the romantic epic books, like Franke...

Re: Ch. 13 - Down on the Farm

Did anyone see the political likeness between the country that imprisoned Ai and communism? It seems that the original country of landing was more democratic and made a show of the gem trade and freedom of actions... but the other country was subversive and controlling. The farm camp reminded me of ...

Re: Invite an Atheist to BookTalk

I know there have a been a number of polls and such on this site to see who is an atheist and who is not... but perhaps the "decline" you are experiencing is not an actual decline in atheists on the site, or even the percentage of atheists, but a lack of interest in the forums that continu...

Re: Avatars

Its so nice to see inside everyone to know why they picked their avatars. Mine is probably pretty obvious but I will deepen it a bit. I picked mine because I fell in love with the character "Death" in Neil Gaiman's "Death, the High Cost of Living" comic series back when I was a g...
