Re: Books featuring a cast of unpleasant characters
Did you enjoy the book? I'm quite enjoying Wuthering Heights even though I have no fondness for any of the characters. On the other hand, and this I think is the more common result, I'm sure it played a large part in my antipathy towards Anna Karenina, the work, that rose page by dreadful page. From...

Books featuring a cast of unpleasant characters
I'm currently reading Wuthering Heights and have read in reviews and other various comments the idea that all the characters are cruel, malicious and so on. Re: My rant on censorship
If you enforce a boycott or any other action to get a book removed from a public library, where everyone's tax dollars go to supply reading material, then that is a form of censorship. You are saying that a book is not to be available in a public forum where all books are encouraged to be read and ...

Re: My rant on censorship
No one forces anyone to read a particular book. If you don't want to read it, fine; but don't tell me I can't read it. I can tell you not to read any number of books but it's not censorship since there is no authority behind these commands. EDIT: I mean, I'll tell you right now to not read Don Quix...

Re: My rant on censorship
I don't see the motivation for apologizing about being political in a forum that begins with the word "political." Then again I don't see your post as being particularly political in nature anyway... but what I want to say is that censorship goes beyond boycott, disdain and disinterest, wh...

Re: Supreme Court Ruling Protects Religious Freedom
A late reply... but as I think you asked an interesting question... here it is. I mean that the law requires employers to cover contraceptive costs in their health insurance plans. I know that many of us don't think birth control is a big deal. But some religions are opposed to some methods of birth...
