Re: Atheism vs. freethought - an important discussion

>Ok this is where we start to part company. I am atheist because I was raised atheist. It was a shock to me to realize this because I have lots and lots of well thought out, logical reasons for understanding that "god" is imaginary; and yet, I have to honestly admit that I now understand t...

Re: Official Poll - 3rd Quarter 2006 NONFICTION book POLL!

Three Votes for Dennett, "Breaking the Spell"I've already read this book. I have added it to my short list of books that have had a profound effect on my life. Although Mr. Dennett is an avowed atheist, he's as willing to tear us a new asshole as anyone else when we deserve it. It is not a...

Re: Official Poll - June & July 2006 FICTION book POLL!

I will read "Time Traveler" if it's selected but probably not either of the other two, so I have to put myself down as an "abstain". Also I'm not sure what my "active" status is these days, about half way through "ender".You buggers fart in your spacesuits! If...

Re: Are you male or female?

Of course we hold no-one's age against them; "Japangirl" implies that you are girl or woman... but bitter, it would be handy in "male or female" if you identified your gender. If you make yourself really small, you can externalize virtually everything. Daniel Dennett, 1984

Olives, Gods, and Smarties

Put me down for one vote each.I have already read "End of Faith", but I'm much less sympathetic to it than I was when I read it, so I wouldn't mind talking about it. I found Olive Tree and the Lexus fascinating and enlightening. Did someone call him liberal? I thought he was an arch-conser...
