Re: Ted Hughes/Sylvia Plath

I'd be up for a discussion on on Birthday letters. Is anyone else? Does anyone know how to start a discussion?!

I'm still working my way through it - I like "Sam"

Anyone else got any favourite poems so far?

Re: Lost is awesome.

Has anyone read "The Third Policeman" by Flann O'brien? It was endorsed by the makers of Lost and there are some interesting parallels.

Re: Ted Hughes/Sylvia Plath

Well I liked Caryatids 1 and 2. But I am only about 10 poems into the book - try reading those - see if they get you going!

Ted Hughes/Sylvia Plath

I have owned Birthday Letters by Ted Hughes for years, but as is always the way, I am only just reading it. I have also only read The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath, so I am coming to the whole Ted Hughes-Sylvia Plath controversy anew. Could anyone recommend some key poems by either of them for me to read...

I went to China about 10 years ago - amazing place.

Anyway, I don't know about specific books about the places in China, but I have read Wild Swans, which would be good if you are interested in the Cultural Revolution they had.

Have a good time!

Collective nouns

I don't know if anyone watches QI, but recently the were discussing how the collective noun for gorillas; a "flange" of gorillas, came into usage. Apparently it was used as a joke on Not the Nine O'Clock News, but then people started actually using it in academic discussions of gorillas. M...

Has anyone read "Howards End is on the Landing"?

Has anyone read "Howard's End is on the Landing"? I've seen some good reviews of it, but haven't read it yet. Booklover7809 - you said you were reading "The Time Travellers Wife" - I've read that and loved it. It was fairly confusing, but really enjoyable. Have you seen the film?...

I am painfully addicted to Lost. When the first series was out on TV I would come home on a Wednesday night, grab my tea, run up to my room and refuse to speak to anyone until the episode was over. (I should probably point out that this is the only TV programme I do this with - I'm not a recluse!) I...

Time to Say Goodbye

Years ago, when the Brightman/Bocelli single became famous, my Grandad was becoming very ill before he passed away. I was just begining to develop my music taste and this was a song we shared a love of - we both had a copy and would listen to it on a walkman. So it is a song that brings back both sa...
