Re: Have you read the whole Bible?

Mr. Marks, the prophets can be very good reading, but use of a commentary is often helpful.

Re: Ch. 6: NOTES FROM THE SIXTH YEAR - THE CASE FOR REPARATIONS

What damage have you done, Mr. Marks? The discussion of reparations is compelling for two reasons: First, Coates discusses the Holocaust and the reparations that were given to Israel by Germany....my immediate thought upon reading this section was, "Sure but the Holocaust was far worse than the...

Re: Draining the swamp - Thank you Donald Trump

Litwitlou has written: "The problem is not Trump's policies as President; the problem is that Trump is President. I'm not saying Mrs Clinton is pure as the driven slush fund, but Donald Trump, really? REALLY?" Really. I voted for him and deem the choice obvious. Hillary is not fit for the ...

Re: Ch. 2: NOTES FROM THE SECOND YEAR - AMERICAN GIRL

Coates speaks of this study about the applicants. I Have not read it. It might be true, but true or not one must make one's own way. The point is not that everyone will get his dream job, etc. Life is hard. If you want to succeed, you will have to apply yourself and work...whatever the color of your...

Re: Have you read the whole Bible?

I have read the entire Protestant Bible many times. How long did it take? I did it in my teens the first time...perhaps a year and a half. It is my favorite book and I still read it regularly. What have I gotten from this reading? It is a text full of useful and good teachings. I have found much goo...

Re: Draining the swamp - Thank you Donald Trump

I am not keen on any of this, but it is what it is. The problem of celebrity and the prospect that a future President would be just a celebrity has been well understood for a very long time. The last election which pitted one of the most corrupt figures in recent political history against a celebrit...

Re: Boston's Holocaust Memorial - simply too much for me to handle

Thanks for sharing this, Chris, I did not even know it existed. We went to the Holocaust Museum in DC a few years ago...it is a lot to take in. Having read a bit about the subject I will say there is nothing about it that ever makes me feel comfortable or reconciled to the fact that the most cultura...

Re: Ch. 2: NOTES FROM THE SECOND YEAR - AMERICAN GIRL

<t>In truth, race is irrelevant. It does not determine in modern America the limits of your abilities or prospects, it does not shape your character or personality. It generally plays a major role in your life, or the life of Coates, or any American only to the extent that one focuses on it and thin...

Re: How and why can people ignore their God’s immoral ways?

Gnostic Bishop has written: "How and why can people ignore their God’s immoral ways? I find it quite strange that Christian, Muslims and Jews can ignore the immoral ways that their God is shown to have in the Bible, Qur’an and Talmud." These are book written by men. They contain good and u...
