Re: What FICTION book would you like to read in August through October?
Actually I have a doubleheader for you. First, "The Power Of One", second "Tandia" both by Bryce Courtenay. "Tandia" is the sequel to #1. Both books are set in South Africa in late 1930's through late 1950's. "The Power Of One" is in my top 20 list of the best...

James Lee Burke's new book "Robicheaux"
On a previous thread I posted about this author someone mentioned that JLB had a new novel "Robicheaux" coming out soon. I haven't seen it on the bestseller lists yet so I just wondered if it's any good or a bomb like a couple of his recent novels. Anyone read it yet? If so, your opinion, ...

Re: "Unintended Consequences" by John Ross
Thanks for the response to my post. I just checked eBay and the cheapest price for a used copy is $79.99. Tell Mr. Ross he has a lot of friends down in the Republic of Texas! Sure wish he would write another book.

Re: The Left's Children's Crusade
Read my Jan. 20 post about the novel "Unintended Consequences" by John Ross (1996) on the Fiction forum. This is a scenario about what gun enthusiasts might be driven to when the ATF and Federal goons try to take away their 2nd Amendment rights. I believe that any US citizen over 21 should...

Has anybody read "Robicheaux" yet? I'm interested to see if JLB got back in the groove with this one!

Classic Sci-Fi - "A Canticle for Leibowitz" by Walter M. Miller Jr.
I read this as a young man and really loved it. Was able to pick up another copy and the sequel "Saint Leibowitz And The Wild Horse Woman" (1997) at a local thrift shop this week. "A Canticle For Leibowitz" won the 1961 Hugo Award. It's just as good on the re-read as the first ti...

"Unintended Consequences" by John Ross
I picked up a copy of this at the local Savers thrift shop here in Austin and just got around to starting it early this week. It was written in 1996 and is all about the gun culture in America. The deeper I got into it the more I realized that the real theme is all about the gradual oppression of ou...

Slaverz_Bay, I bought of the Harry Hole books "The Leopard" today at one of the library branches and will give it a try-looks pretty interesting. Skimming through it, looks like Harry is Bernie Gunther's brother!

What really defines "middle class" in the USA?
We have all heard endless rhetoric about this from politicians during the debate about Trump's new tax reform. Democrats claim it will hurt the middle class, the Republicans the opposite. However, none of them is willing to define what income level constitutes "middle class". So, I figure ...

Re: The Art of No Deal
If Mr. Trump and the rest of the Republican party don't get their s**t together REALLY quick and get this tax reform bill passed and signed by year end, they are going to get hosed at the polls in November, 2018. I'm a lifelong Republican and I can't believe the ineptitude I've been seeing in Washing...
