Re: Wuthering Heights

I'm not trying to sound feministic because I don't feel any hostility towards the character of Jane, or even Mr. Rochester, and I think rather than Jane feeling "worried" that she's about to encounter the same fate as the wife, she feels relieved that the madness is finally over (no pun i...

Re: Ch. 1, The Wide Skirt

So far I do not know if I am enjoying this book or not. It is sort of strange. Not in the way that The Wind Up Bird Chronicles is strange. I think there is a darkness to it. I sometimes like darkness but sometime it is too much. And I am not sure how I feel about the way that that scene with Annie a...

Re: Ch. 1 - The Primordial Faith

Isn't it inevitable and isn't it correct to note the difference between the natural world and the supernatural? Don't we want to keep those things separate? I do not know that I would say correct necessarily in keeping the supernatural and natural world separate. It may be inevitable. There can be ...

Re: US Catholic Church tarred with new child sex abuse scandal

It is really sad. Pedophiles seek out that type of work because it allows them access to victims. So while the Catholic Church continues to allow these people to continue committing heinous acts, it has made the ordination of women a crime. It also spreads the lie that pedophiles are homosexuals. Mo...

Re: Faith in God! Really!

The only thing I had in mind here were hurricanes, earthquakes, diseases, tsunami's, etc. Lot's of damage happens with those things yes. Sometimes humans can avoid those things, sometimes they can't. If we take care of our earth those things may happen less but will never go away completely. But na...

Re: Faith in God! Really!

Neither, it is the perpetrator. I agree. Why is it that we do not put the blame where it belongs oftentimes? I suppose there are books on that question that would go into great detail. I know that people are complicated. The world today is so much better than centuries ago that it is beyond compare...

Re: New Republican Ad - video

FakeGeo may have a point that I think we need to explore a little further and possibly elaborate on. I suggest we create a team. Any volunteers?
FakeGeo did not say a lot unless you are talking about the real Geo. Are you being facetious?

Re: Faith in God! Really!

God doesn't do these things because he is a figment of our imagination. If he were real, and still didnt do these things, that means he wants there to be homeless people, killers and plagues. If he did not want them, then they would not be. If there is no God to blame then we can only blame ourselv...

Re: Who exactly wrote all 3 "Good Books"?

Joining a discussion on a book I've yet to read would expose me to nothing but "spoilers", no? :-) But that is what this forum is about: reading intelligent books together. So you would not be joining in a discussion about a book you had never read. You would be discussing the book as you...
