Re: Do you believe in a supernatural creator, God or gods of any sort?
Can we have a third category please. for those who don't give a toss one way or the other? The degree to which you care about the question is not a 3rd category. Either you believe in a supernatural creator, God or gods or you don't. After answering that question feel free to share whether you care...

Re: What does your BookTalk.org username mean?

Heledd was a mythical welsh princess, and also we have the 'Song of Heledd' which is one of my favourite poems from the 7th Century, talking of the defeat of the Welsh by the invading Anglo Saxons. I'm glad I stumbled on this thread. Always wanted to as...

Re: Suggestions needed for unlucky reader friend!
Sounds like your friend is going through a reading slump. Happens to the best of us. Plug away. Something is bound to make it right again. Cattleman....that is twice now that you have mentioned that Lumby book. I have it on hold at the local library since the first recommendation. Funny......cause I...

Re: Reading for pleasure! What are you reading now?
I'm currently reading American Gods by Neil Gaiman. On page 76 of 588. I had a feeling there would be a thread here on Book Talk about it and sure enough there is. I'm probably going to need it to figure out what is going on. So far I am enjoying it.

Re: Moby Dick Chapter 7 The Chapel
I stopped reading Moby Dick for a bit. Think I will read a couple chapters over my days off. Haven't really sunk my heart into it. I find the writing a struggle. Too many words. Guess I didn't know what to expect. I was sorta hoping it would be an Old Man And The Sea sorta thing. Was not expecting t...

Re: Moby Dick Chapter 7 The Chapel
I'm having a heck of a time trying to figure out what Melville is trying to say in this chapter. Our shadow is our true self?
"Methinks we have hugely mistaken his matter of Life and Death. Methinks that what they call my shadow here on earth is my true substance.

Re: Moby Dick Chapter 5 Breakfast of Champions
I quickly followed suit, and descending into the bar-room accosted the grinning landlord very pleasantly. I cherished no malice towards him, though he had been skylarking with me not a little in the matter of my bedfellow. However, a good laugh is a mighty good thing, and rather too scarce a good t...
