Rush Limbaugh Baffled By Evolution

Unread post

"That anyone today can still ask the "then why are there still apes" question is amazing, a testament to the anti intellectual and pathologically incurious."
- Skeptic's Guide to the Universe
RUSH LIMBAUGH (HOST): This woman obviously has not read Genesis, and even if she did it wouldn't have any impact on her. But human beings travel all over the world to gawk at animals precisely because they're unusual, they're interesting, some are cute, some are deadly. There's no way human beings are going to not be interested in animals. Gawking at them. Out on safari, hunting them or what -- By the way, you know there's another factor in this, Snerdley? A lot of people think that all of us used to be apes. Don't doubt me on this. A lot of people think that all of us used to be gorillas. And they're looking for the missing link out there. The evolution crowd. They think we were originally apes. I've always -- if we were the original apes, then how come Harambe is still an ape, and how come he didn't become one of us? "Well, that's why were looking for the missing link, Mr. Limbaugh, your question is absurd."

I agree with one of the commenters: I actually thought he was smarter than that, too.

I think he's playing a role, just like Trump is.

Although maybe he really is that ignorant, can't rule that out.

Oh c'mon, Limbaugh really is that ignorant.

I remember him discussing patients with tourettes syndrome. He suspected they are just a bunch of obnoxious folks who like to hoot, holler, flail about, and cuss randomly then hide behind a (airquotes) SYNDROME (eye roll / siiigh) as an excuse for their behavior. Another time he attacked/mocked Micheal Fox who has Parkinson's for his head waggling and other symptoms deliberately employed to gain sympathy, understanding zero about the disease or how medication affects symptoms. (Trump echoed this severe lack of empathy in imitating a disabled reporter.)

And on & on... I'm sure he has a staff who could have spent 20 minutes of research to prevent at least a few of such stunningly ignorant remarks, but Rush does not give a fük. He believes since his core principles are correct, anything that issues from is mouth is also correct.

That kind of supports my theory, his goal is not to make accurate comments about Tourette's syndrome, it's to entertain his audience who would listen to him for hours railing against people they don't like.

Yes I s'pose that could be. As I recall if you dig deep enough, Rush claims to be an "entertainer."

But still....just look at this again.
Flush Windbag wrote:...how come Harambe is still an ape, and how come he didn't become one of us?
That isn't even the "why are there still apes" question mentioned in the OP; Rush ponders why this individual ape did not evolve into a human during its lifetime!
Well....stripped of context maybe that's not entirely fair, but he does ask why Harambe didn't become one of us.

Then Rush adds a nice touch of racism in mentioning another fatherless family.

(BTW, I've been to our zoo many times and taken pictures of Harambe, so this whole tragedy is pissing me off...)

We have an anti-intellectualism movement in this country that's deeply entrenched in politics. The elitist left is "for" evolution, and so the reactionary right has to be against it. Conservatives no longer lead with ideas, they react to everything the Left stands for. And so they're against climate change, evolution, transgenderism. In that respect, it is sort of like playing a role. Limbaugh shows no interest in learning more about science; he's being intentionally stupid because the left is intelligent.

Just look at Trump and you have a good idea where we're headed with this.

This is absolutely correct. They don't care what he does so long as he attacks those damn leftistsocialistcommunistgodlessatheistevolutionistscience-lovers destroying the country. Remember when he said that drug addicts are destroying the country and should all be sent up without exception--ESPECIALLY white drug addicts--and then gets caught doctor-shopping to procure himself illegal doses of oxycodone that he was hooked on? Then he got caught with illegal viagra and didn't get any charges filed against for it. You know he bought his way out of it just as he bought his way out the the oxycodone incident (for $30,000). Did that repel his audience? Nope. They don't care what he does or what laws he breaks or what he spends to make his legal troubles go away--just as long as he keeps on attacking those damned leftistsocialistcommunistgodlessatheistevolutionistscience-lovers destroying the country.
