Religion in the workplace

Unread post

Hello everyone,

Anyone work in this kind of setting? I work at a catholic hospital, and the overall theme, of course, is this religion's message, but I don't ever feel like it's pushed down my throat. Twice a day, there is a reading from the bible on the overhead speaker - a reflection, so to speak. Recently, a "standard" was issued that we should all be quiet during these readings so that those who want to listen to them can have that opportunity. Nothing wrong with that, I guess. Upon deciding to work in a catholic hospital, I certainly knew that there would be such conditions in the workplace, and I can live with that. This hospital does a LOT in the way of charity care. But this article shows a trend toward religion becoming more and more prevalent in the public demain, and it seems a bit worrisome to me. Not only that, but it's Legal. What do ya'll think?UC browser SHAREit Appvn

Thank you!

Hello adam77. Thanks for your post. I'm not sure what article you refer to at the end of it. If the article does say that religion (I assume Christian religion) is being "pushed" on people who haven't signed on to the faith, that's an interesting finding if backed up by any sort of data. From my own experience, I wouldn't be able to say so. I attended a council meeting in my small southern town which began with a moment of silent prayer, so if that's foisting religion it's a pretty mild sort. It seems certain that we have a turning away from religion continuing in this country, with a quarter of the adult population identifying as "none," and over a third of millennials identifying as the same. So could a perceived increase in religiosity be a result of alarmed reaction to the slippage of religion? It's difficult to say.
